Romanticizing the Chaos: Finding Beauty in the “Eh” Seasons

Let’s be real. Not every day feels magical. Lately, I’ve been deep in the job-hunting trenches, dragging myself through sluggish mornings, watching my bank account slowly diminish, and wondering if I’m ever going to feel like that girl again. But in between the rejections and the existential scrolling, I’ve learned to sprinkle a little magic back into my daily routine. Not because everything’s perfect (because currently it's not) but because I deserve joy even when things feel messy. So here’s how I’m romanticizing my life right now even in the “Eh” and stressful seasons.

1. I romanticize mornings by making them mine

  • Even if I snooze my alarm ten times (Sorry Mel Robbins, I swear I am trying), I always give myself one small ritual: whether it's warm ACV (Apple Cider Vingear) lemon water in a cute glass, lighting a candle, or listening to a chill playlist/podcast it helps set the tone.

  • I pick a vibe for the day: cozy academic? European grandma? (current default, honestly) Soft wellness girl? Dressing the part helps. Change. Shower. Make yourself feel like you again.

  • Pro tip: a robe and coffee in a pretty mug can cure a lot.

2. I clean like the main character in a feel-good montage

  • Put on good music or a podcast maybe even a show in the background and do a 10-minute tidy.

  • Wipe down the counters. Spray something that smells nice. Light a candle. And BOOM—new vibe.

  • Pro Tip: Soak cotton balls in essential oils and vacuum them. Every time you clean, your space will smell divine. It’s giving luxe aromatherapy meets domestic goddess.

3. I add little luxuries, even on a budget

  • Flowers from the grocery store, fresh sourdough, fancy olive oil, and a bougie salt

  • A lemon water “spritz” at 5 PM with slices floating in a cute glass — because hydration tastes better when it looks pretty

It’s giving: European girl in her little apartment living beautifully despite her life falling apart. And honestly? It works.

4. I move my body like it’s an act of self-respect, not punishment

  • A walk in the sunshine. A run because I am traning for a half marathon. A pilates or yoga class.

  • Movement helps me feel good again when I’m stuck in my head

  • A few deep breaths throughout the day with my hand on my belly also helps

5. I romanticize cooking, even the simplest meals

  • I play music, and put on my adorable pink apron

  • I plate things nicely, even if it’s just soup or a snack plate

  • I drizzle the fancy olive oil, sprinkle the flaky salt, and pretend I am a chef

  • Cooking becomes a ritual, not a chore

Because sometimes, making yourself a beautiful meal is just what you need to make your soul happy
